Facing Recession, Dem’s Make Statement
This year’s election has captured the attention of the entire country. In so many ways, we are on the brink of witnessing history, and that creates excitement. In addition, with all that is going on, this year’s election has been called the most important election in recent history. And while I am not a “political” person, I have also been watching and listening more intently.
So I am surprised at the latest moves by the Democrats. Am I the only one that is catching this?
We are in the middle of a Recession. I know, no one has yet given it the official label, but by its very definition, we are in a recession period. Many blame the mortgage and housing “crisis.” I think that was the beginning of issues, but the media’s ongoing 24/7 coverage of the proverbial “sky falling” and the absolute reluctance of anyone in “power” to admit where the economy is (the American People KNOW!) has continued this downward trend.
So with the economy slowed down, unemployment on the rise, and gas prices reaching record highs, it feels like the drought here has dried up the “money tree.” I can only imagine how teh rest of the country is feeling because we actually have a pretty good local economy in Charlotte.
So what do the Democrats do as a response to this? How do they make a public statement to ease our collective fears and show us that they really should “rule the roost?” They pull an absolutely political move and make a statement that they will not stand for anything Republican. They voted to allow the Bush tax cuts to expire, which means that next year’s taxes could be significantly higher than this years. In other words, they want more of the money we don’t have!
They do cite that this will bring the budget back into the black, which is nice. But let’s be real… our government’s budget is over blown with items that could be cut to help stimulate the economy. Instead, the Democrats are pushing to add more “social” programs to the budget! Maybe that means we’d all get food stamps??? Maybe I am just not getting it… that could be the issue.
This move just frustrates me as an American. Just when I think maybe we could begin to move into a new era in politics, where the needs of the country might outwiegh the needs of the “party”, the parties show me otherwise! And people wonder why I am not more political.
Before you vote, please look at who is doing what. Don’t vote based on party, race, sex, religion or anything else a politician can use to make what they really stand for. See what they are doing… use that as the reason for your vote.
