Weddington’s Manners
This morning I wrote the following post to Localism, and wanted to share with my visitors here.
Today on my way in to work, I had to take a more scenic route. I am glad I did, as I was exposed to something I normally would not see in “rush hour” morning traffic.
Weddington, NC is a quiet town just outside of Charlotte, NC in Union county. It is one of the fastest growing areas and is attracting many affluent people. The charm of the town and the rural feeling really add to the experience there. One of the smaller drawbacks is the main road in and out. Hwy 16 is a simple 2 lane road which gets very busy in the morning.
This morning I saw something you rarely see anymore. At the end of Weddington-Matthews Rd, where it intersects with Weddington Rd, the traffic gets backed up. The drivers on Weddington-Matthews Rd really are in a bad spot, as they could get trapped there for a long time. As the line on Weddington Rd begins to empty, the light just ahead at Providence Rd can quickly change and the line fills right back up. We’ve all been at these types of intersections before and know how frustrating this can be.
But what I noticed is that every other car went out of its way to allow at least one car from Weddington-Matthews Rd to turn. This type of cooperation without a police officer directing it is not something you see much of. And in “rush hour” morning traffic, when every important who’s who is in a major rush to their morning, this is something I would never have expected.
And yet, this small town attitude of service and cooperation was very evident right here!
If you are considering moving to the outskirts of Charlotte, you really might want to explore Weddington. Not only are the homes increasing in value, but the people there are simply priceless!
If you are considering a move, really think about Weddington. It is beautiful and charming and the property values there are increasing, even with the real estate market being soft. The homes are amazingly beautiful and the communities are just gorgeous.
